Time for fun in the summer sun. When the season changes, you need to change your beauty routine too.
Toss the heavy foundation
Use a tinted moisturizer with SPF to get a hint of color and the sun protection you need. You can also skip the foundation all together and just use a little bronzer. Apply it with a light hand to get a sun-kissed look that’s never too dark or orange. Pick a shade of bronzer that is just slightly darker than your natural skin tone and apply with a big fluffy brush to the places the sun hits your face first — nose, forehead, chin and top of your cheekbones.
Use gold eye shadow
Make your eyes stand out this summer with gold eyeshadow applied to just the lid. Use white shadow in the crease and also in the inner corner to make your eyes pop.
Pick a fruity-floral fragrance
Put away your heavy perfume and embrace a new fruity-floral fragrance. Pick a light scent that is perfect for summertime. You don’t even need to use actual perfume, just layer on scented body lotion or other fragrant skincare products.
Highlight your hair
Add a little summer to your hair with natural-looking multi-tonal highlights and lowlights. Don’t do anything too harsh that will look brassy in the summer sun.

Recently, Revlon Brand Ambassador Jessica Biel debuted a special cut of “Hypnoteyzed,” her commercial for Revlon’s new Grow Luscious Plumping Mascara in Times Square.

The new Revlon mascara conditions and plumps eyelashes by 200 percent. Revlon Grow Luscious Plumping mascara will be available in drugstores and mass retailers nationwide on June 1. The 60-second film noir-inspired commercial features Beil along with musician Pharrell Williams and is shot on black and white film. The “Hypnoteyzed” ad will begin running in US movie theaters on June 13.
Wearing Gucci clothing and Christian Louboutin shoes, Biel looked absolutely gorgeous at the event in Times Square. Revlon Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman explains how he created Jessica’s look:
“To give Jessica a luminous complexion I used my new favorite makeup from Revlon — Revlon Age Defying with DNA Advantage Cream Makeup in Soft Beige. The amazing moisturization properties of the makeup, with SPF 20 protection, make this a perfect summer foundation for women of any age. For the mauve color on her cheeks, I used Revlon Matte Powder Blush in Blushing Berry. Since today was all about long, lush lashes, I wanted to bring focus to the eyes, so I added just a touch of color to lids using the dark brown eyeliner from the Naturally Glamorous CustomEyes Shadow+ Liner palette inside her bottom and top lashes. I groomed her brows with the ColorStay Brow Enhancer just a bit and then applied the NEW Revlon Grow luscious Plumping Mascara –- one coat was all I needed! For a subtle flush of color on her lips, I applied the Revlon Matte Lipstick in Really Red lightly with my fingers.”

Sandal season is here, so it’s time to get a fabulous pedicure. This season, get into bright colors to show off your tootsie.
Julep’s new Summer Collection features three fabulous colors:
- Niecy is the perfect pink to bring out on a bright sunny day
- Blake screams buttery, delicious bliss (without the calories)
- Jaime is an electrifying and sandal-wearing blue
If you don’t think yellow is a great nail color, think again. Lady Gaga and Willow Smith were both recently spotted wearing the shade. All Julep products feature 3-Free formula, meaning they do not contain carcinogens such as formaldehyde, toluene and DBP.
Julep Founder Jane Park offers this summer nail tip: “When you have to dash out the door, especially after a DIY pedicure, you can ‘set’ your polish by dunking your feet in ice water for 30 to 60 seconds. Then coat with cuticle oil (or olive oil works too in a pinch) to help protect your polish from chips and dings.”
Right now you can order the Julep 2011 Summer Collection (all three colors for $42) during the pre-sale. They have just 100 pre-launch sets that will ship next week — everyone else has to wait until the official launch on June 15.
Julep supports women through Powered by Girlfriends — an ongoing program that donates $1 from the sale of every Julep Nail Vernis to organizations that empower and support women.

Summer is almost here and with it comes hot, sticky weather that can damage your hair or at least, cause bad hair days. To keep your hair looking its best, consider these hair tips, product suggestions and styling ideas from Zahir Ziani, the National Creative Director at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas.
Don’t touch! – Playing with or touching your hair can loosen the style out of its shape, creating friction, which causes the hair to expand and increases frizz and volume.
Be cool – Skip blow drying your hair and styling with heated tools. The heat can damage hair cuticles and cause more frizz.
Go long – When temperatures and humidity are at their highest, control your hair by keeping it long and heavy. The trick I use with all my clients is adding in curl to the ends so hair becomes “anchored” or weighed down.
Accept change – The texture of your hair can fluctuate with the seasons, so the products you use in winter may not be effective for smoothing hair and taming frizz in the summer. The Kerastase BAIN OLÉO-RELAX is a perfect summertime beauty essential!
Wear SPF – Hair, like skin, needs protection from harmful UV exposure. Look for hair care brands that offer sun protection in their products, with a minimum of SPF 15. Like with your skin, use hair care products formulated with antioxidant vitamins (A, C, E) to prevent against free radical damage. Also try taking a vitamin supplement for hair and nails during this time of year.
Bounce-back – Use fabric-wrapped elastics; they are gentle on your hair and less likely to cause breakage. If you only wear non-metal elastics, do not wrap them around your hair more than twice. Before you go to bed, remove any elastic gently, as it can tangle hair during the night.

Everyone knows that sunscreen is essential whenever you are outdoors. However, sometimes we skip it because it isn’t convenient to tote around a bottle of sunscreen and slather it on-the-go. That’s why I was glad when I heard some companies have created sunscreen wipes in recent years.
I tried Dr. T’s Supergoop! Sunscreen Swipes, and I love them! These pre-moistened towelettes soothe your skin with ingredients like green tea, soften and protect with vitamin E, plus provide a layer of UV protection with SPF 30+.
The formula is water-resistant and paraben-free. They are great for babies, kids and adults.
Have you tried sunscreen wipes? We’d love to hear about which brands that you like? Though I like Dr. T’s, they don’t come cheap. A 21-count box is $34.00 at Nordstrom.

Stop wrinkles and fine lines before they start with these anti-wrinkle tips and tricks.
Put on oversized sunglasses
A pair of giant, glamorous sunglasses will not only hide tired eyes, they’ll also help fight wrinkles in two ways. First of all, big sunglasses stop you from squinting — which can lead to crow’s feet over time. And secondly, they’ll protect the sensitive skin around your eye area from the sun’s harmful rays and their anti-aging effects.
Workout every day
Exercise isn’t just good for your body, it’s essential for your skin. Exercise increases oxygen production and the release of damaging toxins. If you allow toxins to build up in your skin, even your best anti-aging creams won’t do their job. Exercise will also help reduce stress — another cause of wrinkles.
Stop smoking
Are you still smoking? Quit today. Cigarette smoke does serious damage to you skin — as if causing cancer isn’t enough. Reduce your alcohol consumption too. Overindulging in alcoholic beverages puts a strain on your body, dehydrating your skin and accelerating wrinkles.
Pick the right skin care products
Use facial moisturizer and eye cream twice daily. Look for products that contain antioxidants and hyaluronic acid. Read more about the top skin anti-aging ingredients and find out which anti-wrinkle ingredients work best.

Women’s Health magazine has Emma Roberts on their April 2011 Beauty Flip Cover. Emma, who is starring in the upcoming movie, “Scream 4,” offers a selection of pointers and insight into her own beauty routine.

Emma’s feel-pretty pointers…
- “Even if I get home late and I’m tired, I always wash my face [before going to bed]. There’s nothing worse than waking up with makeup on!”
- “I put a little hair spray on a toothbrush and brush my eyebrows so they stay upright.”
- “I also wear a moisturizer with SPF and do a deep-cleansing mask once or twice a week.”
- “If I had to use only one makeup product, it would be mascara. I pile it on. I also love fake lashes. I buy individual lashes at the drugstore and use tweezers to apply them myself. It’s hard to do but so worth it.”
- “I almost always have color on my fingers and toes. At the moment, I’m loving navy blue and gray—colors that are fun but also classy.”
Their third annual, special 24-page Beauty Bonus in the April 2011 issue (which is on sale now) is packed with hundreds of amazing hair, skin, and makeup tips and tricks.

Spring makeup is flirty and fun. Check out the latest spring makeup color trends and add a new product or two to your daily routine.
Purple eyeliner
If you find yourself always wearing black eyeliner, spring is a great time to change things up a bit with some color. This spring, look for eyeliner in pretty shades of purple. One of our favorites is the Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Eye Pencil in Untamed Violet. At just $19.00, it’s a fantastic buy. Partner it with their Wild Violet Pure Color eyeshadow palette for plenty of purple.
Cotton candy pink lips
Coral lips are definitely hot this season, but don’t forget about pink. We are seeing plenty of lipsticks and glosses in cotton candy pink and other pretty pastel hues this spring. You’ll love Dolce & Gabbana’s The Lipgloss in Bon Bon ($29.00). This gorgeous gloss is party of their Secret Garden Collection.
Rosy cheek color
For springtime, add a flush of natural color to your cheeks that is rosy and soft. You don’t want anything too dramatic. For a dewy look, consider cream blush rather than powder. Applied with your finger tips, cream formulas deliver semi-sheer color with a dewy softness that you’ll love. NARS cream blush offers nourishing ingredients and a smooth velvety texture. Read more about how to pick the perfect blush.
