Spring Trend: Fake Lower Lashes

Friday, December 31st, 2010

Several designers, cosmetic companies and makeup artists have been emphasizing the lower lashline for Spring 2011. At the Zac Posen show at Fashion Week, we even saw big, lush false eyelashes on the lower lashline.

Zac Posen - Spring 2011

To me, this look is just too outrageous to become a mainstream trend. False eyelashes give enough women fits on the upper lashes — can you imagine the hassle of putting them on your lower lashes?

Is this look just runway chic or will it actually translate to the city streets?

Personally I think we’ll continue to see a lot of emphasis on the lower lashes with bright or metallic eyeliner or neon shadow lining the lower, outer lashes. But I don’t think we’ll see many women gluing false lashes on the bottom.

Fabulous False Eyelashes

With the fantastic mascaras available these days, many women steer clear of false eyelashes altogether. But for an ultra-glam look for parties, they can’t be beat. Here are a few tips to make applying false eyelashes a little easier.

False EyelashesUse primer
To help the glue (and your eye makeup) adhere, apply eyeshadow primer all over your entire lid — from lash line to browbone.

Be tacky
Put a little glue on the back of your hand, then wait 10 seconds to allow it to get a little tacky before gliding your strip of lashes through the glue.

Clean up
After applying your false lashes as close to the lash line as possible, use a Q-tip dipped in eye makeup remover to clean up any glue mess around your eyes.

Fill it in
Use a black ink lining pen to line your top lashes and fill in any gaps between your natural lashes and the false ones. Then apply mascara to help blend your natural lashes and the fake ones together.
