Narciso’s Fall 2011 collection draws inspiration from architectural elements and the combination of these rich, textural materials. It combines color with neutrals to create graphic shapes and volume.
This season the beauty look embraces the darker side of Narciso Rodriguez and illustrates the strength that modern women embody. According to Wella Professionals Global Creative Director, Eugene Souleiman, “…she is intelligent and not pretty in an obvious way, but her look is interesting. She is admired for her character and tough nature, which is reflected in the somewhat unkempt, rough hairstyle.” A simple ponytail becomes masculine by tying it into a knot on the back of the head. Rather than keeping hair around the face sleek, it’s mussed up for added texture and roughness that suggests this intentional, uncaring attitude and air of confidence. This is the perfect hairstyle for going from work to a night out or for those days when your hair isn’t looking its best after your everyday blowout. Here’s the steps and products used to create this look:
- First, spray dry hair with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz at the roots to get the maximum benefits of the product by adding texture.
- Blast hair all over with a hair dryer directing the air and heat at the head to create root lift and texture. Massage roots to create more volume.
- Grab hair and pull into a tight ponytail one inch below the crown and secure with an elastic.
- Spray length of ponytail with Wella Professionals Ocean Spritz for some additional texture and then tie ponytail into an actual knot; secure knot in place with a pin.
- Gently pull at pieces of hair around the face with fingertips to create a square shape.
- Rub Wella Professionals Texture Touch into hands and slick onto hair with palms to create a raw, tight texture that makes hair look dirty and matte.
- Spray hair around the face with Wella Professionals Shimmer Delight to add some shine and glossiness to the finished look.
Wella Professionals, the global leader in haircolor, introduces a complete series of new styling products that caters to a variety of hair care needs. Wella Professionals Care and Styling launches in May 2011 at a suggested retail price of $12 – $17. Products can be purchased at professional salons across North America. Updos and ponytails that were a bit undone were very popular at Fashion Week. Lead stylist Thomas Dunkin of the Sebastian Professional Stylist Design Team created the gorgeous hair for the Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet show.

Alice + Olivia Inspiration:
The Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet Fall 2011 collection evokes timeless elegance and unabashed glamour. Stacey Bendet creates a wardrobe for a chic, free-spirited female; an empowered individual who is flawlessly fun and full of life, ready for a party, eccentric and captivating.
Follow the tips below to get the look at home.
- To start, dampen the hair with water and generously apply Volupt Spray throughout the hair. Blow the hair out with just your fingers, keeping any natural texture in the hair and making sure the hair has plenty of volume.
- Once the hair is completely dry, leave a soft parting where the hair falls into a break naturally. From here, spritz all over with Shine Define for flexible control and gently pull back the hair to either the center or to either side.
- Twist very small, subtle sections on the sides and pull hair back into a large chignon and allow what pieces pop out to remain loose. Secure with a natural-colored hair band, matte bobby pins and fine pins. Pull the chignon into a pretty shape and secure with a few more pins.
- Finally, spritz the hair with Trilliant for a soft natural hold and beautiful shine.

The show notes dubbed the inspiration as “Pearls of Wisdom” and every model wore a pearl necklace at the Donna Karan show at Fall 2011 Fashion Week.
The collection featured slinky jersey dresses, fabulous wool pencil skirts, ruffled blouses, cashmere sweaters, flared trousers and of course, some gorgeous gowns. Most of clothes were in neutral shades — making the texture the center of attention.
Models wore their hair in high ballet buns — a popular look among celebrities on the red carpet lately as well. Let’s take a look at a few of our favorite pieces from the Donna Karan Fall 2011 show.

One of my favorite shows from Fall 2011 Fashion Week was Victoria Beckham. Posh, you’ve come a long way, baby.
The designs are simple, sophisticated and even managed to be sexy, without being revealing. I love the colors — particularly the reds and yellows. Take a look at a few of the looks from the Victoria Beckham Fall 2011 show. She eliminated the need to worry about the models’ hair — they are all sporting black swimcap-esque hats.

Every season, Diane von Furstenberg’s show is one of my favorites at Fashion Week. And she didn’t disappoint for Fall 2011.
The Diane von Furstenberg fall collection features a sensational sequin gown version of her signature wrap dress, pretty prints, fabulous coats and much more. Like many designers at Fashion Week, DVF had some amazing blue pieces. From cobalt to turquoise to navy, blue is definitely going to be hot for fall.

Some of the clothes are so outrageous at Fashion Week that they are simply too outrageous for “real life.” However, so far at Fall 2011 Fashion Week, we’ve seen some amazing looks that are oh so wearable. Some of our favorite pieces were from Tracy Reese.
Tracy Reese offers a cool collection that features plenty of neutral and jewel-tone dresses and separates jazzed up with fur, beads, tassels and other embellishments. Tracy also offers plenty of prints — which will be hot again for fall.
Check out just a few of the looks from Tracy Reese.

At the ORGANIC by John Patrick show at Fashion Week, the models’ hair was very romantic, a little bit messy and glamorous yet natural.

Aveda lead stylist Antoinette Beenders created “Model Off Duty” hair using Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion and Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray at the ORGANIC by John Patrick Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Week presentation.
“The ORGANIC by John Patrick hair for this season is a very real and natural look that can be adapted to fit anyone’s style,” said John Patrick. “It’s like messy teenage hair with a bit of glamour, inspired by the idea of a ‘Model Off Duty’ who quickly pins her hair back. This collection is very ‘90’s romantic—full of mismatched textures. I love how the hair is beautiful and unfussy, echoing the ‘elevated grunge’ vibe of our clothing.”
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Sprinkle Aveda Pure Abundance Hair Potion throughout the hair for matte texture. Massage with fingertips at the root for slight volume.
- Gently backcomb hair at the crown, using a wide-tooth comb to create a textured, ultra roughed-up look, while leaving the ends of the hair untouched. Spray with Aveda Air Control Hair Spray for light hold.
- Using a Mason Pearson brush, loosely brush the top of the hair back to smooth backcombed portions. Allow hair to part naturally.
- To create the textured, half-up style, twist and pull one-inch sections from above the ear on each side of the head. Use bobby pins to secure the entwined pieces at the occipital bone at the back of the head.
- To keep the haphazard look from being untidy, finish with a holding mist of Aveda Control Force Firm Hold Hair Spray.

“John Patrick and I were inspired by the idea of a girl quickly pulling her hair back and pinning it,” said Antoinette Beenders for Aveda. “The concept of reflection inspired the collection, and we loved the idea of a woman sitting down at the mirror to create a realistic and unique hair style for herself. This season’s ORGANIC collection is elegantly devil-may-care, so the perfect nonchalance of the hair complements this aesthetic perfectly.”

Fashion Week is here and it’s not just all about the clothes. It’s about the hair and makeup too. This week, we’ll feature a series of posts about the makeup and hairstyle trends emerging at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and let you know how you can achieve these looks.
Today, let’s start with the Luca Luca Fall 2011 show. What’s great is they used Revlon cosmetics — affordable for all of us!
Revlon’s Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman, paired a contoured eye with a strong lip for the Luca Luca Fall 2011 collection, bringing forth the designer’s vision of a forest fairytale filled with lush orange and okra hues.
“The look is about a fresh, modern girl on an adventure,” says Westman. “She’s refined, yet modern. I created an eye that is contoured but not overly done so the attention is focused on the bright, striking lip.”

A few weeks ago, we made our way to the launch of Dior.com beauty launch that took place at SL! We’re always a fan of having an amazing web experience when we’re shopping and this site didn’t fail to disappoint us in the slightest! We love the amazing imagery as well as seeing everything that the site has to offer.
In addition to having a number of computers set up so that we could see the site, we had the opportunity to have makeovers as well. There was something very Fashion Week behind the scenes about it and we’re always happy about that (Fashion Week is a few weeks away). Take some time to check it out as we’re huge fans of Dior Show so we’re super excited to see what you may be interested in getting to make your new years amazing.

When we think of Fashion Week, we think of New York. But Fashion Week doesn’t begin and end in The Big Apple. In fact, Fashion Week is held in cities all around the globe. This past weekend, Lviv Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 took place in Lviv, Ukraine. This event showcases designer fashions from Eastern Europe and includes a contest for up-and-coming young designers.
To say some of the clothes are outrageous is an understatement. Let’s take a look at some of the designs on the runway at Lviv Fashion Week.
If you can look past the shock of some of these pieces, you might find something you like. For example, the combination of bold yellow with green (like the tank and shorts) is a hot look for spring. The bright colors work well together and look like you just stepped out of the garden. You can skip the boa, hairpiece and feathered sandals, however. And if you can look past the Lady Gaga-esque mask and outrageous hair, the one shoulder dress is pretty hot. The spiky porcupine skirt on the other hand, I’m not sure I could justify.
For more outrageous fashions, check out celebrities who dress like every day is Halloween.
