Ever hear of a woman named Xaviera Hollander? If not maybe you have heard the term the Happy Hooker.
I have been spending some quality time researching Hollander since I am writing a one woman show about sex. While most people have heard of Heidi Fleiss, some people have no knowledge about Hollander.
In a short time, Hollander went from being a call girl to becoming one of the most famous madams of New York City when she opened up her brothel, Xaviera’s Happy House. In 1971, she was arrested for prostitution and forced to leave the county. It was then that she wrote the best selling memoir, The Happy Hooker: My Own Story. The book is a delightful read as well as packed with great tips about men. Madams do tend to have great skills in the boudoir.
The book also inspired a movie by the same name starring Lynne Redgrave. Unfortunately, the movie was not filled with a lot of porn scenes it focused more on greed and lust in The Big Apple.
Hollander has given lectures on the “do and don’ts of sex in Canada, Holland, and various cities in Europe. For 35 years she wrote a monthly advice column for Penthouse Magazine called Call Me Madam and she has remained their most popular columnist.
She now operates a unique bed and breakfast in Amsterdam called the Happy House Bed & Breakfast and produces theater in Europe. Rumor has it there is Happy Hooker musical in the works.
