Recently, I was reunited with an oldie but a goodie, a face wash I swore by in middle and high school and one that dermatologists everywhere can’t seem to get enough of: Purpose Gentle Cleansing Face Wash. It’s a complicated story, you see, the love affair ended sometime in late high school when I was introduced to Purposes’ arch nemesis, Cetaphil daily face wash. Cetaphil and I became good friends and it has been my trusty, go-to morning face wash for as long as I can remember, but ever since I re-discovered Purpose, it’s been my main squeeze. Its gentle, non-irritating and leaves the perfect canvas for applying makeup. It doesn’t sting, no matter how sensitive my skin gets and it even removes the toughest of eye makeup. Purpose, welcome back to my life! As I welcomed Purpose back into my life, it got me thinking about what other classic drugstore products I should rediscover, so here’s what’s on my list.
Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque:
This “masque” brings me back to the days of sleep-away camp where we would pile this green, goopy cream with the hopes that it would solve all of our skin problems in a matter of minutes. Well, hey, a girl can dream right? This cult-favorite will certainly help dry up existing pimples, reduce blackheads and shrink pores. Simply apply and wash off after it firms and hardens. The mint tingle is refreshing and your skin will feel clean and smooth afterwards. Get spa-like results at home with this mask for just $4, a must-have in my book!
Neutrogena Body Oil Light Sesame:
Nothing moisturizes quite like Neutrogena Body Oil. In the dead of winter, this is the only thing that keeps my skin adequately nourished and in the summer, the scent and sheen the oil leaves on your skin is downright sexy. It’s best used right out of the shower on slightly damp skin and you’ll be left with a radiant, healthy glow. The light sesame scent truly makes for an unbeatable moisturizing experience.
Dove Beauty Bar:
You know the deal, this bar is hypo-allergenic, fragrance free and contains 1/4 moisturizing cream, and for those with sensitive skin, this bar can’t be beat. The clean-skin feeling after using this soap is truly one-of-a-kind. Skin is left moisturized and never feels stripped or dry, a real class act.

RoC® Retinol Correxion® Sensitive is a new gentle, yet effective RETINOL CORREXION® SENSITIVE line is designed specifically for sensitive skin and retinol beginners. For those like myself who have tried to use retinols in the past and have given up due to peeling, sensitive skin, this is for you! The unique formula releases slowly overnight, diminishing fine lines, wrinkles and crow’s feet with virtually no irritation. 96% of women saw improvement in their skin with no redness or irritation after just one use, according to a clinical study. This line includes a Sensitive Night Cream and Sensitive Eye Cream and is available at drugstores nationwide: www.rocskincare.com.
Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Crème: The latest addition to Peter Thomas Roth’s ridiculously popular and effective Un-Wrinkle line is a powerful blend of nine anti-aging peptides that are infused into this intensive moisturizing cream. The breakthrough new BoNt-L peptide works in synergy with the Un-Wrinkle blend to reduce the depth of fine lines while increasing youthful elasticity and bounce. This luxurious cream nourishes and soothes skin to provide superior moisturization. Skin is left visibly replenished moisturized and looking years younger. Available at Sephora stores nationwide and www.peterthomoasroth.com
H20+ Aquafirm Weekly Active Foam Mask: Finally a mask that you can see and feel working! This mask starts off as a gel but upon contact with your face, turns into a fabulous, frothy foam. The foam tingles and stimulates the skin, delivering a deep surge of hydration, one you can actually feel! The sea-sourced barrier envelops the skin and immediately firms and plumps to get rid of expression lines and creases. The secret ingredients include Marine Microspheres (plump the appearance of fine lines from within), Sea Nutrient Barrier (a fusion of algae and oat extract for an instant lift) and Brown Sea Kelp (protects skin, supports collagen levels). If you use this product once you’ll have smoother skin, and use it once a week for about 5-8 minutes for enviable, young-looking skin, and did I mention it’s fun?! Available at H2O stores nationwide and www.h20plus.com.

As Halloween nears, we’re all breaking out our masks and costumes. But when you dig deep, a lot of us are wearing emotional masks the year round. When we are involved in the game of dating, many of us are — just that — playing games. Our mates are not necessarily seeing our true face, and this can ultimately cause great harm to our relationships and our own self-esteem.
We consulted Dr. Craig Martin, author of Elemental Love Styles (Beyond Words/Atria 2010), and he shared the fears we have with removing our masks and how to manage them.
THE PROBLEMS
1. Revealing too much, too fast
2. Faking it. “Showing you what I think you want to see.”
3. Prolonged hiding and mask wearing
THE FIX
1. Take your time.
A good relationship will last, so you have plenty of time to share yourself.
2. Be real.
Nothing ends a relationship faster than finding out someone is NOT who they say they are.
3. Be confident.
Eventually, who we are gets seen. So, be brave. You may get a better response than you imagined!
Ultimately, remember: You want the person you are with to want to be with YOU, not the illusion of a person you are creating!
