Look Ahead: Fall 2011 Makeup

Monday, July 25th, 2011

by Kori Ellis

Before you know it, the summer sun will fade away and we’ll be heading into fall. If you are looking for something new to spice up your beauty routine for fall, consider one of these hot makeup trends.

Plum eyes
Plum is the perfect choice for fall eye shadow. Complement your rich purple shadow with eyeliner in bronze or copper. If you are wearing this combo in the daytime, use a light hand when you are applying it.

Chanel Nail Polish

Metallic nails
Get your shine on with metallic shades of nail polish. We love Chanel’s metallic green-gold — Peridot and the other metallics in their Fall/Winter Le Vernis Nail Colour collection.

Orange lips
Orange lips were trendy for spring and they’ll still be popular for fall. From neon orange to rusty orange-reds, you can look fab in any shade of orange. Keep in mind that orange lipstick can make your teeth look a little yellow, so brighten those pearly whites.

New Summer Nail Colors

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

by Kori Ellis

Sandal season is here, so it’s time to get a fabulous pedicure. This season, get into bright colors to show off your tootsie.

Julep Summer CollectionJulep’s new Summer Collection features three fabulous colors:

  • Niecy is the perfect pink to bring out on a bright sunny day
  • Blake screams buttery, delicious bliss (without the calories)
  • Jaime is an electrifying and sandal-wearing blue

If you don’t think yellow is a great nail color, think again. Lady Gaga and Willow Smith were both recently spotted wearing the shade. All Julep products feature 3-Free formula, meaning they do not contain carcinogens such as formaldehyde, toluene and DBP.

Julep Founder Jane Park offers this summer nail tip: “When you have to dash out the door, especially after a DIY pedicure, you can ‘set’ your polish by dunking your feet in ice water for 30 to 60 seconds. Then coat with cuticle oil (or olive oil works too in a pinch) to help protect your polish from chips and dings.”

Right now you can order the Julep 2011 Summer Collection (all three colors for $42) during the pre-sale. They have just 100 pre-launch sets that will ship next week — everyone else has to wait until the official launch on June 15.

Julep supports women through Powered by Girlfriends — an ongoing program that donates $1 from the sale of every Julep Nail Vernis to organizations that empower and support women.

The Latest “Real Housewives” Addition Shares Her Beauty Tips

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

By: Erin Brady

Cindy Barshop, owner of Completely Bare Spa, aka the mecca of hair removal, gives her tips on how to prep your beauty routine for spring:

  • Slather on SPF: “You should always wear sunscreen, even in the winter and especially now that the weather is changing. Steer clear of long-lasting or sport formulas that usually contain thick, pore-clogging oils and instead, invest in a few good face sunscreens that works for you. I’ve been known to use the baby SPF I carry around for my girls as it’s oil-free, gentle, and the formula is thin enough to mix in with your daily moisturizer.”
  • Get Your Beauty Sleep: “Swap heavy creams for lighter serums. Most serums are hydrating, water-based formulas that won’t leave skin too slick. My favorite tip: Add a power shot of serum to your night lotion for anti-aging and hydration.”
  • Feet First: “My favorite at-home remedy to cure dry heels: zap your favorite foot cream in the microwave for about 30 seconds, apply directly to the feet, and cover them up with socks. Try this before you go to bed and wake up with the softest feet.”
  • Nail Call: “Switch out your cool, dark polish for something softer. I trade in OPI’s Black Satin for Essie’s Mademoiselle. If you’re not a pink girl, I recommend going with a taupe like OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques.”
  • Hot Hair Color: “Eva Scrivo from the Eva Scrivo salon tells her clients to transition their hairstyle from season to season. She suggests making your hair color a few shades lighter. If you are a brunette and don’t like the look of caramel colored highlights, go red! I do a glaze and put some red in my hair so that it’s not too obvious but looks shinier with a reddish tint.
  • And of course, Hair Removal: “We’ve had our fair share of single digit temperatures this winter but before you know it we will be wearing bikinis, cutoffs, and sundresses. I recommend laser hair removal for those who are affected day-to-day by ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving. Ingrown hairs took over my life until I began to laser. Take it from my personal experiences – if you have extremely coarse and dark hair go for a consultation to talk through your expectations – you could get rid of those ingrowns for good!”
