Top 10: Cities to Find a Romantic Man

Friday, August 12th, 2011

By Aly Walansky

It’s National Romance Month, and in recognition,  Chemistry.com just released the nation’s Top 10 Cities to Find a Romantic Man.

“It’s a myth that men aren’t as romantic as women,” says Dr. Helen Fisher, Chief Scientific Advisor to Chemistry.com. “Your romantic streak just depends on your biological makeup.  Based on my research at Chemistry.com, I have found that men who are more expressive of estrogen (and there are lots of them, including some football players), fall in love more regularly than others.  These men are also the most creative when it comes to planning romantic activities, and romantic times are particularly meaningful to them.”

Chemistry.com’s data has revealed that the most romantic men in America can be found in cities known for their hip, laid-back culture, with San Francisco, CA , Portland, OR , and Austin, TX claiming the top three spots. The full findings can be found on Chemistry’s official blog, The Spark.

So move over, Paris… Here are the Top 10 Cities to Find a Romantic Man based on research from Chemistry.com:

  1. San Francisco, CA
  2. Portland, OR
  3. Austin, TX
  4. Salt Lake City, UT
  5. Hartford, CT
  6. Boston, MA
  7. Seattle, WA
  8. New York, NY
  9. Los Angeles, CA
  10. Washington D.C.

Is your city on this list? Do you agree with the results?

15 Signs He’s Not That Into You

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

By Aly Walansky

We hope you don’t need all 15 signs — that you’ll value yourself enough to hold back and let him show you he’s interested.

But in case you are waiting for some signs, here’s some doozies:

*He never wants to make a definite date (would you like to go out Friday night?)

*He just wants to come over to your house on the spur of the moment

*He doesn’t make an effort to keep in touch

* You are making all the effort to get together

* He doesn’t seem to think about the future

* He’s not done with his ex:  you’re a “rebound” relationship

* He fell in love with you while he was still with his ex. (It doesn’t matter if he says the relationship is bad — he has a cheating mentality)  If he would cheat on his partner, then why not on you when you are his partner?

* He refuses to talk about past relationships — he’s probably hiding something

* He talks about one past relationship incessantly — it means he’s obsessed.

* He keeps another woman close, and says they’re “just friends”

* He doesn’t want you to meet his friends

* He doesn’t introduce you to family, or invite you to family holidays, weddings, etc.

* He disappears without a reason

* He always has to work (it may be just an excuse for dating others, or it may mean he’s more into work than you)

* He doesn’t ask about your life, your feelings, your friends or family.

What do you think? What sad signs of disinterest have you noticed in your own life?

Think Ahead: Swim and Beach Wear

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

By Aly Walansky

Despite wicked cold temperatures across much of the U.S. — it’s 27 degrees today in New York!!! –  it is time to shed the layers and start looking for the must have wardrobe essentials for winter beach getaways…the swimsuit and its accessories. Veteran fashion industry expert and owner of Sylene of Washington, Cyla Weiner provides insights into 2011 swimsuit and overall cruisewear trends women should consider.

“Yet, regardless of a women’s physical appearance, in 35 years in the swimsuit industry, I have never met a woman who enjoys shopping for a swimsuit,” Cyla says. “Two things that are consistent is that women hate shopping for swimsuits and women always scrutinize their own bodies, whether they are a size two or a size 16.”

Help exists as swimsuit designers create swimwear with different body types in mind. Just as shapewear is a woman’s secret wardrobe weapon, Spanx continues to ride this wave with its great swimsuits, especially its tankinis with a choice of a high waisted bottom, Cyla adds.

Cyla says to trust her as the perfect suit does exist. She has outlined a few key body type issues and trends to help you find the suit that will make you feel and look fabulous:

Full & Small Busts: For the full bust Sylene of Washington is bringing back Aerin Rose suits. They go from D, DD, E (DDD), and F. They have bikinis, tankinis and one-piece suits. Another vendor that is coming back is Tara Ginna who makes suits up to a G cup also with many variations on bottoms. Another new line that Sylene of Washington has booked is called A.Che and they are cup sized suits only up to DD; however, this designer deals with the small busted gal who needs a little help. In particular, there is one top that Cyla plans on offering that will increase your bust size up to two sizes.

Large Thighs and Hips: We are bringing in many options in tankinis and bikini tops that have a skirted bottom, Cyla says as “this is a very flattering look for that body area.”

Color Trends: Colors are slightly changed – again – black with different shades of navy in all lines. Many combinations of black with navy have emerged creating a very sophisticated and fresh look. Animal prints are being offered in every line. Snake skin print in browns and blacks and greys and leopard prints in browns and newer versions in black with grey top the chart. “We love animal prints and have a fabulous monokini coming in from Melissa Odabash,” Cyla says. Prints have a wide range this season offering everything from tribal prints to paisleys, to various color combinations. Another solid color that was strong was a beautiful shade of spruce or forest green. We saw it in the Eres line and Karla Colletto’s line too.

Finishing Touches: Buckles in the swimsuit fabric or metal finishes is a trend for 2011. A Che and Karla Colletto both offer great suits with this attention to detail.

What are you looking forward to this swimsuit season?

Shapewear Products Offer an Instant Body Solution

Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

By Aly Walansky

A solution to help instantly slim the body has been around since the invention of undergarments, but today’s shapewear products are not your grandmother’s girdle! Today, these products are more comfortable, stylish and deliver even more results. All of these features while remaining invisible under clothes. Good bye visible panty lines and hello to shapewear rescue.

Shapewear does not discriminate as there is a product for everyone and in everyone’s size including plus-size or large busted women. Just by wearing shapewear products, a woman can instantly look as though she’s lost five to 10 pounds. There is even a waist cincher product that promises a woman’s stomach-area measurements will decrease one to four inches within 30 days. Regardless of weight loss, when a woman feels they look good, she carries herself differently with more poise and confidence.

Women are clamoring for shapewear products and manufacturers are delivering with new colors, styles and types of undergarments to help specific problem areas. Shapewear hides those little bulges and rolls and that makes your clothes look great, regardless of size. It doesn’t matter if you are 110 pounds or 210 pounds, shapewear products smooth out problem areas to trimming the hips and thighs. The appearance of looking firm and toned is realized by this instant body solution.

Shapewear continues to evolve across more and more product lines. Leggings that eliminate panty lines and create a sleek silhouette are good for all body types. There are now shapewear camis and tops (both in cap sleeve and long sleeve versions) that are worn as the main garment in many cases. Available in bold colors like red, fuchsia and turquoise, camis are dominating the inner and outerwear trend. But beyond offering color alternatives, the tanks and camis in the shapewear product line are great for eliminating back fat and giving women a great uplift with a nice seamless bra and can be easily layered.

There are many types of under and outerwear shapewear products, like bras, panties and slips. There is the popular cami, full body briefer, control panty, girl short, high waist brief, long leg brief, control hosiery, shaper bras, and slips. There is even a footless Capri length shapewear product. Depending on the clothing item being worn and the problem area a woman is looking to conceal determines which shapewear product might be the best choice. If a woman is picking two universal shapewear products that she can turn to in a crunch to help slim down, the girl short or other form of brief and a cami truly deliver visible results and a much smoother appearance.

Shapewear has evolved tremendously over the decades. A few improvements in shapewear products development include: a change in the types of fabrics used; seamless construction; wicking properties; and overall comfort. More color and pattern options have been offered in product lines and some vendors have added lace to make the product look a little less industrial. Truly, there has been serious innovation in shapewear to add the sexy into this functional product line.

Just as a strapless bra is a must-have in a woman’s undergarment wardrobe, shapewear has claimed its place in the drawer and on the body. The shapewear industry is a woman’s secret under and outerwear garment for instantly looking slimmer, smoother and stylish.

Roll Away the Darkness

Dark circles tend to show up more in the winter time when you’re not the glowing goddess you usually are in May-September.  Lack of sleep and fatigue don’t help either, they can make the delicate skin around your eyes thinner and more translucent.  To combat dark circles and conceal the under-eye area in one swoop, you’ve got to try one of our new favorite products: the Garnier Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller.

Love Crooners

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

by: Yolanda Shoshana

In the good old days there were songs written about undying love where women were put on pedestals. The songs were so hot that men would play them to woo a woman and win her heart because the song said all the things they wanted to say. Somewhere along the way, love songs became about one night stands and instead of talking about a woman’s beautiful smile, it is all about her butt.  While there is nothing wrong about saying a woman has a nice backside, where did the romance go? A woman loves a nice romantic song just like she likes a romantic movie.

While it is hard pressed these days to find love songs like “My Girl” by the Temptations or ” You Send Me” by Sam Cooke, the two young urban crooners, Robin Thicke and Bruno Mars, are making sure that love songs make a come back.

Two things shock people about Robin Thicke; the first is that his father was the popular dad on Growing Pains. Who would have ever thought, Alan Thicke, would have a son on the soul charts? The other shock is that he is indeed an R & B singer. While Robin Thicke may be into making soul filled music, but does not like for it to be called “blue eyed soul” because he thinks it is a stereotype. First he seduced listeners with “Lost Without You”, a song professing that he can not do anything without his lady love by his side. He followed it up with “Sweetest Love” where he confidently sings nothing can beat his sweet love. Thicke’s latest album is titled “Sex Therapy” he backs up the title with an album filled with sexually charged songs oozing with seductive lyrics. Thicke’s music is very popular with women for obvious reasons. His lyrics are filled with passion and sheer love of the woman he is talking about in each song. It also doesn’t hurt that he is quite a cutie.

Peter Gene Hernandez, who is best known as Bruno Mars, is a singer that is currently causing a big stir on the music charts. Since his singing voice is high pitched, there are people who have thought he was a woman. One thing is for certain, love is what Mars craves to sing about.  If you attend any of his shows you will notice a mainly female audience who adore this 5′ 5″ singer. His latest song, “Grenade” is blowing up the charts. The song is a passionate song about a woman who does not have the same feelings for him, but he would catch a grenade for her and would even take a bullet straight to his brain for her. When was the last time that kind of love was written about in a song? But his song “Just the Way You Are” is the ultimate way to let a women know that she is perfect, just the way that she is. This is a song that can be used to woo and romance; the words could melt the coldest woman’s heart.

Other singers are taking notes from Thicke and Mars and starting to do more serious love songs. A real love song is not just about how cute a woman is or acting like she is a play thing, but about how amazing she is and how she has changed life as someone knows it. May the good old days of sexy, creative, and hot love songs continue to make a come back.

Celebrity Hairstyles for the SAG Awards

Monday, January 31st, 2011

by Kori Ellis

The hair and makeup at the awards shows is just as important as the dresses, handbags and jewelry. Let’s take a look at some of the hairstyles created for the 17th Annual SAG Awards on Sunday night.

Amy Adams - SAG

Amy Adams’ sleek hairstyle was created by Frederic Fekkai celebrity stylist Adir Aberegel.

Inspiration:

The dress was a statement on its own so Abergel wanted to accentuate the dress; this look is a sleek statuesque do with a modern twist

How to get the look:

Abergel applied Fekkai Coiff™ Contrôle Ironless Straightening Balm from the roots to the end of the hair and sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel at the hair line to achieve the sleek ‘do. Next, he blow dried the hair straight with a round brush. With a straightening iron, he sealed the ends to achieve the flat style. He then pulled the hair into a high ponytail. A great tip for this is to follow the cheek bone line all the way up, and then place the base of the ponytail at that point. He secured the hair with an elastic band, for an added dimension. Finally for added shine, he finished the look by spraying Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist.

January Jones - SAG Awards

January Jones’ romantic updo hairstyle was created by Frederic Fekkai celebrity stylist Renato Campora.

Inspiration:

Campora was inspired by the styles of the 1950’s. This look is dramatic, sharp and fresh to reveal January’s natural beauty.

How to get the look:

On wet hair, Campora began by applying Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Styling Whip to create volume and Fekkai Coiff™ Contrôle Ironless Straightening Balm to smooth out the hair. He parted the hair to the side and blow dried using a round brush. To accentuate the wave, he used a one inch curling iron setting the hair into pin curls. Once he took the curls out, Campora brushed through the hair creating volume and constructing shape for the style. Then, he pinned the hair up at the center of the head, revealing the nape of her neck for the dramatic look. To finish the look, Renato sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray for all night hold.
