Shapewear today is not your grandmother’s girdle or long line bra.
Instead, this intimate apparel essential product has been amazingly updated with contemporary new fabrics that control and smoothes out any lines you want to make invisible. Shapewear hides those little bulges and rolls and that makes your clothes look great, regardless of size. It doesn’t matter if you are 110 pounds or 210 pounds, shapewear products smooth out problem areas from back and bra bulge to the hips and thighs. The appearance of looking firm and toned is realized by these red carpet secret undergarments.
“Key words for shapewear today are comfortable, breathable, and enhancement. Depending on your problem area, different types of shapewear exist that help different body areas,” says Cyla Weiner is a bra, intimate apparel and swimwear fitting expert.
Whether a woman wants to whittle her waist, trim her thighs, define her derriere or banish back bulges, there is a shapewear product to the rescue. There are many different types of shapewear that are most popular and make a difference for perceived problem areas including these suggestions from Weiner:
The Cami Shaper: Body shaping camis come in many styles. A strapless cami shaper is offered by Spanx which minimizes your midriff while simultaneously smoothing out your back. Or consider a V-Neck shaper from Cass and Co. that has wide straps and a flattering neckline. A cami by Cosabella is made of eco-friendly light, breathable and cool natural fiber and is skin friendly resulting in lowering body temperature and is antibacterial, hypoallergenic and odor preventive. This scoop neck tank results in a slimmer and smoother appearance. Camis have made strides in many colors being available including Cosabella’s selections and Cass and Co. Invisabella’s shaping tops with spaghetti straps comes in traditional colors and even turquoise.
The Pant Shaper: One growing product in the category of shapewear is the pant. Cass and Co. offers the Invisabella Full Length Shaper Leggings which have strategic stitching that lifts the back and slims and smooths the front, eliminating panty lines and creating a sleek silhouette. This type of shapewear is good for all body types and is comfortable as it features a non-binding waistband.
The Body Suit: This style is great because it is comfortable, you can go to the bathroom easily, and the product makes you looked pulled together. My favorite body suits are from Body Wrap as they make one with and without a leg. Their full-figure seamless underwire body suit has a tummy control that flattens and slenderizes, while the rear lifts and shapes. The seamless underwire cups provide lots of support and lift. Wacaol offers a full-figure body briefer as well.
The Bottom Shaper: Many styles of panty shaper products exist and innovation has been made with fabric and colors. You can go from a thong, to a brief, to a biker short, to mid-thigh, and to long leg. DuMi, Cosabella and Grenier offer some sexy shaper products that offer significant function. I really like the Cass and Co. and Body Wrap selections. Again, Body Wrap has the best selection for plus sized women and they have evolved shapewear selections by adding fun prints. These shapers do not cut into the waist and smooth out bottom bulge. Cosabella’s Breathe Brief even is made with eco-friendly materials while allowing your body to breathe. Simultaneously firming the tummy and slenderizing hips, firm control is provided and the products are invisible under clothing.
The Dress Shaper: One of my favorites is from Cass and Co. This shaper lifts and supports the bust. The benefit to a dress shaper is that it is one piece with overall slimming control, hence smoothing out any bulges back or otherwise, and stays put about 3 inches above the knee. Depending on your size, Body Wrap offers a strapless slip that accommodates a D cup and is available in sizes small to extra large. Spanx offers a full slip available in sizes up to extra large (size 14-16) as well as a great half slip that is very effective in smoothing out problem areas.
A Final Tip—Color: Many of these shapers come in fashionable colors such as fuchsia, red, brown, cream and pink. Also black, nude and white are staples and basic colors. Nude is always your best color choice because it is skin toned and works with white and black. If your natural skin tone is dark try a brown or suntan for color.

Winter brings many unpleasant things like cold weather, ice, snow, dry skin, chapped lips and for some, unpleasant dry scalp or dandruff. While it may not be something you want to admit to, it’s totally normal for the dry heat, cold air and a multitude of styling products to cause an irritated and itchy scalp. Until now, most dandruff shampoos available at your local pharmacy either smell funky, are blue or green in color and are just generally not fun to buy or use. That’s why the hair gurus at Garnier created Garnier Fructis Anti-Dandruff Shampoos. These shampoos offers a better way to fight flakes, in a dual-action formula that gives 48-hour dandruff control.

The purifying formula is infused with natural extracts to fight dandruff at its source for a deep, flake-free clean. The addition of B-Vitamins leaves hair strengthened and healthy. The shampoos come in three varieties: Clean & Fresh, Dry Scalp and Intense Cleanse, and there’s also a Clean & Fresh 2-in-1 (Shampoo + Conditioner) for those that like to multitask.
In addition to using these shampoos, there are also other steps you can take to reduce your chances of developing dandruff, some of which are simple lifestyle changes:
- Learn to manage stress: Stress affects your overall health, making you susceptible to a number of conditions and diseases. It can even help trigger dandruff or worsen existing symptoms.
- Shampoo often: If you tend to have an oily scalp, daily shampooing may help prevent dandruff.
- Cut back on styling products: Hair sprays, gels and mousses can all build up on your hair and scalp, making them oilier.
- Eat a healthy diet. A diet that provides enough zinc, B vitamins and certain types of fats may help prevent dandruff. (Tips courtesy of The Mayo Clinic).

Want to get a plump pout, but avoid the “duck” lips that so many of the celebrities have?
Dr Tess Mauricio, “America’s Favorite Dermatologist” and nationally known media personality, offers these insights on how both sexes can achieve voluptuous lips with topical plumpers and cosmetic fillers just in time for the Valentine’s Day.

Don’t make it obvious
When administered artfully and skillfully, fillers will provide a perfect pout that blends in with your face and just enhances your overall beauty — it should not drastically change the way you look. Optimally, no one will be able to really tell you had your lips done, but be prepared for remarks like “you look good” or “you look younger.” Great lips have a wonderfully rejuvenating effect on your appearance.
Try a temporary fix
Today, there’s an amazing variety of topical lip plumpers on the market. All such topical products are mild irritants causing that have the effect of a controlled, mild allergy in the lips (so your lips swell a little for a short period of time). Results from these products are subtle at best and obviously temporary. But, a good option for those concerned about making a longer term enhancement.
Make it last
For those who want more significant results that will last 6-9 months (or longer if you are one of those lucky ones) injectable fillers like Restylane or Juvederm is the way to go. Also, if you have those pesky “smoker’s lines” or more advance wrinkling of the lips, forget the topical lip plumpers — the injectable fillers can dramatically and instantly make you love your lips again!
Plan ahead
Those opting for the injectable lip plumping solutions shouldn’t wait until the last minute since mild bruising or swelling may occur for a few days after treatment. But, rest assured the fillers are perfectly safe and effective…and can be administered in just 10 minutes, even on your lunch hour!

Most of the time we buy clothes just because they look good, but sometimes they are for a great cause too.

Actress Mariska Hargitay celebrated her birthday over the weekend wearing an AZIAM Wife Lover made exclusively for the Joyful Heart Foundation — Harigtay’s non-profit organization aiding victims of sexual assault.
Debra Messing and Jennifer Love Hewitt were also in attendance at the event, wearing the tank too. The Wife Lover tank is available for $40 at www.AZIAM.com with ten percent of the proceeds donated directly to the Joyful Heart Foundation.

I have never been a fan on rompers or jumpsuits. They just have always seemed better suited for toddlers that fashionistas.
But the romper trend continues to be hot once again this year. For spring, we are seeing plenty of strapless rompers. And I’ll admit, some of them aren’t bad.

The Juicy Couture ruffled terry jumpsuit pictured here features soft ruffled trim, a drawstring waist and two front patch pockets. This romper is available now at Saks.com for $128.00.
What’s your opinion of the romper? Yay or Nay?
