Despite wicked cold temperatures across much of the U.S. — it’s 27 degrees today in New York!!! – it is time to shed the layers and start looking for the must have wardrobe essentials for winter beach getaways…the swimsuit and its accessories. Veteran fashion industry expert and owner of Sylene of Washington, Cyla Weiner provides insights into 2011 swimsuit and overall cruisewear trends women should consider.
“Yet, regardless of a women’s physical appearance, in 35 years in the swimsuit industry, I have never met a woman who enjoys shopping for a swimsuit,” Cyla says. “Two things that are consistent is that women hate shopping for swimsuits and women always scrutinize their own bodies, whether they are a size two or a size 16.”
Help exists as swimsuit designers create swimwear with different body types in mind. Just as shapewear is a woman’s secret wardrobe weapon, Spanx continues to ride this wave with its great swimsuits, especially its tankinis with a choice of a high waisted bottom, Cyla adds.
Cyla says to trust her as the perfect suit does exist. She has outlined a few key body type issues and trends to help you find the suit that will make you feel and look fabulous:
Full & Small Busts: For the full bust Sylene of Washington is bringing back Aerin Rose suits. They go from D, DD, E (DDD), and F. They have bikinis, tankinis and one-piece suits. Another vendor that is coming back is Tara Ginna who makes suits up to a G cup also with many variations on bottoms. Another new line that Sylene of Washington has booked is called A.Che and they are cup sized suits only up to DD; however, this designer deals with the small busted gal who needs a little help. In particular, there is one top that Cyla plans on offering that will increase your bust size up to two sizes.
Large Thighs and Hips: We are bringing in many options in tankinis and bikini tops that have a skirted bottom, Cyla says as “this is a very flattering look for that body area.”
Color Trends: Colors are slightly changed – again – black with different shades of navy in all lines. Many combinations of black with navy have emerged creating a very sophisticated and fresh look. Animal prints are being offered in every line. Snake skin print in browns and blacks and greys and leopard prints in browns and newer versions in black with grey top the chart. “We love animal prints and have a fabulous monokini coming in from Melissa Odabash,” Cyla says. Prints have a wide range this season offering everything from tribal prints to paisleys, to various color combinations. Another solid color that was strong was a beautiful shade of spruce or forest green. We saw it in the Eres line and Karla Colletto’s line too.
Finishing Touches: Buckles in the swimsuit fabric or metal finishes is a trend for 2011. A Che and Karla Colletto both offer great suits with this attention to detail.
What are you looking forward to this swimsuit season?

A solution to help instantly slim the body has been around since the invention of undergarments, but today’s shapewear products are not your grandmother’s girdle! Today, these products are more comfortable, stylish and deliver even more results. All of these features while remaining invisible under clothes. Good bye visible panty lines and hello to shapewear rescue.
Shapewear does not discriminate as there is a product for everyone and in everyone’s size including plus-size or large busted women. Just by wearing shapewear products, a woman can instantly look as though she’s lost five to 10 pounds. There is even a waist cincher product that promises a woman’s stomach-area measurements will decrease one to four inches within 30 days. Regardless of weight loss, when a woman feels they look good, she carries herself differently with more poise and confidence.
Women are clamoring for shapewear products and manufacturers are delivering with new colors, styles and types of undergarments to help specific problem areas. Shapewear hides those little bulges and rolls and that makes your clothes look great, regardless of size. It doesn’t matter if you are 110 pounds or 210 pounds, shapewear products smooth out problem areas to trimming the hips and thighs. The appearance of looking firm and toned is realized by this instant body solution.
Shapewear continues to evolve across more and more product lines. Leggings that eliminate panty lines and create a sleek silhouette are good for all body types. There are now shapewear camis and tops (both in cap sleeve and long sleeve versions) that are worn as the main garment in many cases. Available in bold colors like red, fuchsia and turquoise, camis are dominating the inner and outerwear trend. But beyond offering color alternatives, the tanks and camis in the shapewear product line are great for eliminating back fat and giving women a great uplift with a nice seamless bra and can be easily layered.
There are many types of under and outerwear shapewear products, like bras, panties and slips. There is the popular cami, full body briefer, control panty, girl short, high waist brief, long leg brief, control hosiery, shaper bras, and slips. There is even a footless Capri length shapewear product. Depending on the clothing item being worn and the problem area a woman is looking to conceal determines which shapewear product might be the best choice. If a woman is picking two universal shapewear products that she can turn to in a crunch to help slim down, the girl short or other form of brief and a cami truly deliver visible results and a much smoother appearance.
Shapewear has evolved tremendously over the decades. A few improvements in shapewear products development include: a change in the types of fabrics used; seamless construction; wicking properties; and overall comfort. More color and pattern options have been offered in product lines and some vendors have added lace to make the product look a little less industrial. Truly, there has been serious innovation in shapewear to add the sexy into this functional product line.
Just as a strapless bra is a must-have in a woman’s undergarment wardrobe, shapewear has claimed its place in the drawer and on the body. The shapewear industry is a woman’s secret under and outerwear garment for instantly looking slimmer, smoother and stylish.

Dark circles tend to show up more in the winter time when you’re not the glowing goddess you usually are in May-September. Lack of sleep and fatigue don’t help either, they can make the delicate skin around your eyes thinner and more translucent. To combat dark circles and conceal the under-eye area in one swoop, you’ve got to try one of our new favorite products: the Garnier Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller.

The hair and makeup at the awards shows is just as important as the dresses, handbags and jewelry. Let’s take a look at some of the hairstyles created for the 17th Annual SAG Awards on Sunday night.

Amy Adams’ sleek hairstyle was created by Frederic Fekkai celebrity stylist Adir Aberegel.
Inspiration:
The dress was a statement on its own so Abergel wanted to accentuate the dress; this look is a sleek statuesque do with a modern twist
How to get the look:
Abergel applied Fekkai Coiff™ Contrôle Ironless Straightening Balm from the roots to the end of the hair and sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Bouffant Lifting & Texturizing Spray Gel at the hair line to achieve the sleek ‘do. Next, he blow dried the hair straight with a round brush. With a straightening iron, he sealed the ends to achieve the flat style. He then pulled the hair into a high ponytail. A great tip for this is to follow the cheek bone line all the way up, and then place the base of the ponytail at that point. He secured the hair with an elastic band, for an added dimension. Finally for added shine, he finished the look by spraying Fekkai Advanced Brilliant Glossing Sheer Shine Mist.

January Jones’ romantic updo hairstyle was created by Frederic Fekkai celebrity stylist Renato Campora.
Inspiration:
Campora was inspired by the styles of the 1950’s. This look is dramatic, sharp and fresh to reveal January’s natural beauty.
How to get the look:
On wet hair, Campora began by applying Fekkai Advanced Full Blown Styling Whip to create volume and Fekkai Coiff™ Contrôle Ironless Straightening Balm to smooth out the hair. He parted the hair to the side and blow dried using a round brush. To accentuate the wave, he used a one inch curling iron setting the hair into pin curls. Once he took the curls out, Campora brushed through the hair creating volume and constructing shape for the style. Then, he pinned the hair up at the center of the head, revealing the nape of her neck for the dramatic look. To finish the look, Renato sprayed Fekkai Coiff™ Sheer Hold Hairspray for all night hold.

Shapewear today is not your grandmother’s girdle or long line bra.
Instead, this intimate apparel essential product has been amazingly updated with contemporary new fabrics that control and smoothes out any lines you want to make invisible. Shapewear hides those little bulges and rolls and that makes your clothes look great, regardless of size. It doesn’t matter if you are 110 pounds or 210 pounds, shapewear products smooth out problem areas from back and bra bulge to the hips and thighs. The appearance of looking firm and toned is realized by these red carpet secret undergarments.
“Key words for shapewear today are comfortable, breathable, and enhancement. Depending on your problem area, different types of shapewear exist that help different body areas,” says Cyla Weiner is a bra, intimate apparel and swimwear fitting expert.
Whether a woman wants to whittle her waist, trim her thighs, define her derriere or banish back bulges, there is a shapewear product to the rescue. There are many different types of shapewear that are most popular and make a difference for perceived problem areas including these suggestions from Weiner:
The Cami Shaper: Body shaping camis come in many styles. A strapless cami shaper is offered by Spanx which minimizes your midriff while simultaneously smoothing out your back. Or consider a V-Neck shaper from Cass and Co. that has wide straps and a flattering neckline. A cami by Cosabella is made of eco-friendly light, breathable and cool natural fiber and is skin friendly resulting in lowering body temperature and is antibacterial, hypoallergenic and odor preventive. This scoop neck tank results in a slimmer and smoother appearance. Camis have made strides in many colors being available including Cosabella’s selections and Cass and Co. Invisabella’s shaping tops with spaghetti straps comes in traditional colors and even turquoise.
The Pant Shaper: One growing product in the category of shapewear is the pant. Cass and Co. offers the Invisabella Full Length Shaper Leggings which have strategic stitching that lifts the back and slims and smooths the front, eliminating panty lines and creating a sleek silhouette. This type of shapewear is good for all body types and is comfortable as it features a non-binding waistband.
The Body Suit: This style is great because it is comfortable, you can go to the bathroom easily, and the product makes you looked pulled together. My favorite body suits are from Body Wrap as they make one with and without a leg. Their full-figure seamless underwire body suit has a tummy control that flattens and slenderizes, while the rear lifts and shapes. The seamless underwire cups provide lots of support and lift. Wacaol offers a full-figure body briefer as well.
The Bottom Shaper: Many styles of panty shaper products exist and innovation has been made with fabric and colors. You can go from a thong, to a brief, to a biker short, to mid-thigh, and to long leg. DuMi, Cosabella and Grenier offer some sexy shaper products that offer significant function. I really like the Cass and Co. and Body Wrap selections. Again, Body Wrap has the best selection for plus sized women and they have evolved shapewear selections by adding fun prints. These shapers do not cut into the waist and smooth out bottom bulge. Cosabella’s Breathe Brief even is made with eco-friendly materials while allowing your body to breathe. Simultaneously firming the tummy and slenderizing hips, firm control is provided and the products are invisible under clothing.
The Dress Shaper: One of my favorites is from Cass and Co. This shaper lifts and supports the bust. The benefit to a dress shaper is that it is one piece with overall slimming control, hence smoothing out any bulges back or otherwise, and stays put about 3 inches above the knee. Depending on your size, Body Wrap offers a strapless slip that accommodates a D cup and is available in sizes small to extra large. Spanx offers a full slip available in sizes up to extra large (size 14-16) as well as a great half slip that is very effective in smoothing out problem areas.
A Final Tip—Color: Many of these shapers come in fashionable colors such as fuchsia, red, brown, cream and pink. Also black, nude and white are staples and basic colors. Nude is always your best color choice because it is skin toned and works with white and black. If your natural skin tone is dark try a brown or suntan for color.

Winter brings many unpleasant things like cold weather, ice, snow, dry skin, chapped lips and for some, unpleasant dry scalp or dandruff. While it may not be something you want to admit to, it’s totally normal for the dry heat, cold air and a multitude of styling products to cause an irritated and itchy scalp. Until now, most dandruff shampoos available at your local pharmacy either smell funky, are blue or green in color and are just generally not fun to buy or use. That’s why the hair gurus at Garnier created Garnier Fructis Anti-Dandruff Shampoos. These shampoos offers a better way to fight flakes, in a dual-action formula that gives 48-hour dandruff control.

The purifying formula is infused with natural extracts to fight dandruff at its source for a deep, flake-free clean. The addition of B-Vitamins leaves hair strengthened and healthy. The shampoos come in three varieties: Clean & Fresh, Dry Scalp and Intense Cleanse, and there’s also a Clean & Fresh 2-in-1 (Shampoo + Conditioner) for those that like to multitask.
In addition to using these shampoos, there are also other steps you can take to reduce your chances of developing dandruff, some of which are simple lifestyle changes:
- Learn to manage stress: Stress affects your overall health, making you susceptible to a number of conditions and diseases. It can even help trigger dandruff or worsen existing symptoms.
- Shampoo often: If you tend to have an oily scalp, daily shampooing may help prevent dandruff.
- Cut back on styling products: Hair sprays, gels and mousses can all build up on your hair and scalp, making them oilier.
- Eat a healthy diet. A diet that provides enough zinc, B vitamins and certain types of fats may help prevent dandruff. (Tips courtesy of The Mayo Clinic).
