Elizabeth Grant: Skincare Pioneer

Friday, June 24th, 2011

By: Erin Brady

Elizabeth Grant skincare came about due to Elizabeth’s own embarrassment over her skin in the 1940’s.  It was during the Second World War when Elizabeth discovered a natural substance that was used to treat war wounds.  She had it specially formulated with other ingredients and began applying it to her troubled skin.  Gradually, but very noticeably, the transformation occurred.  From this personal transformation, Elizabeth knew she had found a truly unique ingredient and in the 1950’s launched her own skin care treatment line.

Her miracle blend, Torricelumn, is an ingredient extracted from the ocean containing natural sea vitamins, nutrients and minerals bonded together.  From this unique ingredient and Elizabeth’s perseverance, she was ale to grow the company from a home-based business to a multi-million dollar global corporation.  Elizabeth Grant is now available at ElizabethGrant.com.

Today, Elizabeth Grant heads up the company along with her daughter Marion and her granddaughter Margot.  Each woman is a fearless business executive AND beauty junkie, a beautiful combination.  The products are truly remarkable and produce amazing results, so it’s no wonder the line has a flock of celebrity fans, including: Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Jennifer Lopez, Brooke Shields and Kourtney Kardashian.  Some of the must-have Elizabeth Grant summer products include:

Collagen Tinted Moisturizer ($80): Formulated with Elizabeth Grant’s exclusive Marine Collagen concentrate, Torricellumn, natural jojoba, aloe vera, Vitamins E & Be and Sodium Hyaluronate, proven to hold 1000 times its own weight in moisture, your skin will be refreshed with gleaming health.

Light Up Your Lips Gloss ($20): Moisturizing Torricelumn making lips appear fuller and smoother with every application of this high pigment, ultra shiny NON-sticky gloss, and refreshing your look is easier than ever. The gentle flow of an LED light in the wand & a small mirror attached to the tube lets Mom gloss on the go! Available in a wide range of beautiful shades from feminine neutrals to fierce brights.

Camphor Hand & Foot Treatment ($20): Take one big whiff of Hand and Foot Cream – and you know this works.  Highly aromatic Camphor is so potent you can feel it going to work while it provides an immediate cooling sensation that alleviates discomfort. This is your summer prescription for chapped, calloused, dry, rough hands and feet!  An intensive treatment to soothe, soften, protect, and deeply nourish the skin. Non greasy and quickly absorbed.

Vitamin C Body Cream ($25): Rich in encapsulated vitamin C, this body lotion releases a fresh burst of vitamin C into the skin each time it is applied.  You’ll love the fast-absorbing infusion that goes to work immediately, stimulating the fundamental matrix that gives the skin its firmness, elasticity and bounce. And it smells amazing.

Cracked Heel Treatment ($20): Cracked heels are a common foot problem generally caused by dry and callused skin. This irritating cosmetic issue can lead to the more serious problems of pain or infection, in cases where cracks are deep. Cracked Heel Treatment helps to relieve and repair dry, cracked heels by moisturizing and softening the skin.

Sunscreen Wipes

Sunscreen WipesEveryone knows that sunscreen is essential whenever you are outdoors. However, sometimes we skip it because it isn’t convenient to tote around a bottle of sunscreen and slather it on-the-go. That’s why I was glad when I heard some companies have created sunscreen wipes in recent years.

I tried Dr. T’s Supergoop! Sunscreen Swipes, and I love them! These pre-moistened towelettes soothe your skin with ingredients like green tea, soften and protect with vitamin E, plus provide a layer of UV protection with SPF 30+.

The formula is water-resistant and paraben-free. They are great for babies, kids and adults.

Have you tried sunscreen wipes? We’d love to hear about which brands that you like? Though I like Dr. T’s, they don’t come cheap. A 21-count box is $34.00 at Nordstrom.

Foods For Young Skin

Sunday, April 24th, 2011

By: Erin Brady

At first glance, these key ingredients seem more suited for the kitchen than for your medicine cabinet, but working them into your diet can have real beauty benefits:

Cocoa: Cornell University food scientists found that cocoa powder has nearly twice the antioxidants of red wine and up to three times the amount found in green tea.  Research has demonstrated that the antioxidants in cocoa are highly stable and easily metabolized by the human body, which means they can be readily used by the body.  Cocoa has a high concentration of anti-aging polyphenol antioxidants, so it’s possible that incorporating dark chocolate into your diet might alleviate the signs of aging.

Cranberries: They are rich in flavonoids, which have been found to have anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-inflammatory properties, making them very valuable to your overall well-being..  Not only are cranberries jam-packed with antioxidants, but they also act as a natural breath mint.

Almonds: A 2003 Food and Drug Administration study suggests that 1.5 ounces of fiber-, protein- and vitamin A-rich almonds daily might reduce the risk of heart disease and help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Grapes: Grapes are high in polyphenols, which have many health benefits including the prevention of heart disease and cancer.  When applied topically to sun-damaged skin, resveratrol, an antioxidant found in grapes and red wine, can help decrease the effects of UVB exposure and help stop skin cells from developing skin cancer. Resveratrol also might benefit the skin through moderate grape and red-wine consumption.

Naturally Beautiful

By: Erin Brady

This Friday is Earth Day, so why not take the time to add some products to your beauty routine that feature the highest-quality, natural ingredients.

Some of our favorites include:

Clark’s Botanicals, a line that features Jasmine Absolute, a precious essential oil derived from nocturnally blooming flowers.  Naturally antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and immuno-stimulating, this extract works to calm, balance and heal a broad spectrum of skin types, from young to mature, oily to dry, and normal to sensitive.

Ultra Rich Lip Balm ($19) – As if natural moisturizers like Shea Butter, Aloe Leaf Extract, Jojoba and Sweet Almond Oil were not enough, this lip balm also features Marine Collagen Microspheres that act like miniature water reservoirs. Together, these ingredients deliver intense, long-lasting hydration. Vanilla Planifolia and Jasmine Extracts add a delectable flavor that will have you re-applying—even when you don’t need to. It’s also a great lipstick primer, preventing feathering.

Genuinely natural from head to toe, the Davines Authentic Collection ($26-46) contains the first and only hair care products designed not only for hair, but also face and body. Gentle enough for even the most delicate skin and effective enough to thoroughly cleanse and condition hair, the breakthrough Authentic collection features 98% to 100% naturally-derived ingredients. The four-product collection trades in synthetics like SLS, SLES, sulfates, parabens, artificial colors, silicons, mineral oils, PEG and etoxilates for sustainable formulations including biodegradable surfactants and organically cultivated actives like shea butter and sesame, jojoba, sunflower and carthame oils.

Wash and Glow

Monday, April 18th, 2011

By: Erin Brady

If it’s chilly and not quite spring-like in your neck of the woods, don’t fret, spring will be here eventually and when it does arrive, you’ll want to be ready!  “Ready” means willing and able to shed those tights, boots, long sleeves and so on.  For me, it’s always liberating on that first sunny day when you can loose the tights and your legs can breathe again.  While self-tanner pre-Memorial Day may seem aggressive, a subtle glow never hurt anyone! http://cdn.blogs.sheknows.com/articles.lovingyou.com/2011/04/image.jpg

Enter St. Tropez Skin Illuminator, the pocket-size product that was all the rage at London Fashion Week.  It finishes the skin with a gorgeous iridescent sheen, can be worn alone or to complement a tan.  Now available in Rose Gold, Gold and Violet, each shade contours and highlights, whether you want that 70′s deep golden glow, flushed/flirty polish of rose, or the best-selling illumination magic of Violet, this collection has you covered.  Finally a product you can use both before AND after spending time in the sun, a must for sure!

Another personal favorite is L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze One Day Tinted Gel.  This bronze colored gel provides a sheer, buildable tint of color that lasts for one day!  Maple extract and caramel are natural colorants that give a totally natural glow, so it blends well on even the palest of legs.  The color makes it easy to rub the gel on evenly and i dries in a matter of seconds without a chemical smell.  I used it recently and loved how it gave my legs the perfect glow and even though I was worried it might streak if I went to the gym that night, it did no such thing, it stayed put until I scrubbed it off in the shower.  Glowing perfection!http://cdn.blogs.sheknows.com/articles.lovingyou.com/2011/04/ADKwrmkEmcpa4ZsUM-gbEFZUReh0QcYH_DBQ5AYI4YSr6qY8S-v1ICGZdG39JkH1hYPLGbE43d0rIO2kKgyePZOWoMt5gJ5qLun79YveAYabWt6wuIt05avEvb8IcUoAzwnH7X8gbwzhWnvQCNXl0fSi.jpg

Estée Lauder’s Granddaughter Launches Lifestyle Brand: AERIN LLC

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

By: Erin Brady

It was only a matter of time before Estée Lauder’s granddaughter, Aerin, formed her own beauty line.  Aerin is known for being the somewhat mysterious face of Lauder, a longtime fixture in the NYC social scene, a fashionista and most importantly the Senior Vice President, Creative Director for Estée Lauder.  In her latest venture, just announced today, Aerin is not only creating a beauty line, but a luxury lifestyle brand deemed AERIN LLC.  This brand will offer accessories, jewelry, eye wear, home products and the aforementioned beauty line to be sold in department and specialty stores as early as 2012.

Ms. Lauder said, “I’m thrilled to continue playing an active role in the iconic Estée Lauder brand, including serving as global brand ambassador and spokesperson. At the same time, I look forward to pursuing my vision to create the AERIN brand.  As I launch this new business, I am excited to have the extraordinary team at Estée Lauder as my partner in creating a beauty collection that will reflect my new brand’s style and spirit.  I look forward to our future together.”

With a last name like Lauder and an impeccable sense of style, we are all waiting with baited breath to see what this new line will look like!  For those Estée Lauder fans that have long awaited an extension to their beauty offerings that is classic and timeless, Aerin’s line may just be it.

Sephora:

The makers of everyone’s favorite mineral makeup line, bareMinerals, have created a skincare line!  The line of cleansers, moisturizers and treatments feature bareMineral’s proprietary miracle ingredient RareMinerals ActiveSoil Complex, which is clinically proven to deliver brighter, younger-looking skin all while providing that coveted glow bareMinerals products are famous for.

  • bareMinerals Purely Nourishing Cream for Dry Skin: Improves firmness, elasticity and skin texture while delivering moisture to dry skin.  Antioxidants protect skin from the environment leaving skin soft, smooth and luminous ($28).

The badgals at Benefit also launched a skincare line called B.right Radiant skincare.  This collection consists of nine products intended to brighten and rehydrate the skin and includes two facial washes, a facial polish, facial emulsion (with SPF 15), a heavier facial moisturizer, an eye cream, toning lotion, makeup remover and facial mist all of which will be launching in two parts.

  • Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion with SPF 15:  Uses Tri-Radiance complex to bring hydration to the skin and then helps skin to develop long-term reserves of water for generously moisturized skin.  The best part, the complex lacks any oils and includes SPF, perfect for sensitive or acne-prone skin the hydration it needs this spring/summer ($28).

Get Your Skin Ready for Spring

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

by Kori Ellis

The winter weather can take a toll on your skin. Get your skin ready for strapless dresses and sandals with these beauty tips to replenish and rejuvenate your skin.

Beautiful woman washing her faceExfoliate
The dry air in your house and the cold air outdoors leaves you skin flaky and dull. Start by exfoliating your skin from head to toe to scrub away those dead skin cells. Buy two scrubs — one that is gentle enough to use on your face and another that is strong enough for the rest of your body.

Hydrate
Replenish and nourish dry skin with by moisturizing morning and night. Use your morning moisturizer right after you step out of the shower, before you dry off — to help seal in the moisturizer. If your skin is exceptionally dry, use a rich cream — such as body butter. When moisturizing your face, pay special attention to the areas around your eyes and mouth, which are prone to wrinkles and dryness.

Glow
If you are feeling a little pale, get your glow on with bronzer or self-tanner. Just don’t overdo it — you want the sunny glow to look natural. When using bronzer to your face, apply it in the places that the sun hits first — nose, cheeks and chin — not allover you entire face.
